BRETT NEWCOMB - QUARTERBACKS

Newcomb played QB, FS & Special teams at Cambridge High School where he was a 4 year letter winner while compiling  a 48-1 record, 3 consecutive state titles, and a state record 48 consecutive wins.  Brett was also a standout basketball player and track athlete. Newcomb was a member of the McCook Community College Mens basketball team in 2003-2004.  Newcomb is married to his wife Chelse and has two daughters, Pailee & Crosby.

STEVE BENA - INSIDE LINEBACKERS

Bena was born and raised in Omaha. He is a 1985 graduate of Ralston High School, where he received the Metro Running Back of the Year and went on to play fullback at the University of Wyoming as well as graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Architectural Engineering with emphasis in Mechanical & Structural Engineering and Business Administration.  Steve has 10 years of high school coaching experience at Fort Calhoun, Ralston High School and Creighton Prep.  He is a Professional Mechanical Engineer and President Of Grunwald Mechanical Contractors & Engineers.  He is married and has 3 children, Brandon, Ryan and Hannah.

JAMES KERWIN - DEFENSIVE BACK

Kerwin enters his 25th season coaching football and second with Prep.  Kerwin was the first Head Coach/Def Coordinator of the expansion Wichita Falls (TX) Nighthawks of the Indoor Football League in 2015. The Nighthawks were 3rd in the league in defense.  Previously, Kerwin joined Green Bay of the IFL  half-way through the season and led the Blizzard to a playoff spot at the end of the 2014 season.  Kerwin also was Strength & Conditioning Coordinator with the Omaha Nighthawks of the UFL and the Omaha Beef as Co-Head Coach and Director of Football operations in 2011-13.  In 2009, Kerwin as Head Coach, led the Beef to a 12-2 record and the Midwest Division Championship. Kerwin has extensive experience in the Arena and Indoor professional game with coaching stops in Lincoln (Lightning), Green Bay (Blizzard), Evansville (Bluecats), Topeka, Kansas, and leading the Tennessee Thundercats team to an Arena Championship in 2001. Kerwin previously was Defensive Coordinator and Strength & Conditioning Coordinator at Doane College and Midland University, an assistant at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and Emporia State University.  He played football at the University of Nebraska and the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. James was also a finalist for the 1996 U.S. Olympic team for Team Handball. In addition to coaching football, Coach Kerwin has also worked as Performance Coach working with a multitude of athletes at the professional and collegiate level including assisting local High School Football programs in Nebraska, including, most recently, a stint as defensive coordinator at Papillion La Vista South.

COLIN CLAYBURN - ASST. COACH

Colin Clayburn is a Columbus HS Alumn where he served as team captain in 1994.  Clayburn played nearly every position on the field during his abbreviated college football career at Peru State, but stopped playing due to concussions.   After transfering to Wayne State, Clayburn began his coaching career as a graduate assistant coach under Dan McLaughlin.  Wayne State would qualify for the D-2 playoffs for the first time in school history in 2010.  In 2011, Calyburn served as a graduate equipment manager at Arizona State under former Seattle Seahawks coach Dennis Erickson and Todd Graham.  The Sun Devils would make two bowl appearances. After graduating with a Master's Degree from ASU in Physical Education in 2014, he would be an assistant coach for Mesa Mountain View High School.  After stops at Alliance HS & Omaha Westside, Colin would join the Junior Jays.  Currently assistant sophomore/JV football coach and a middle school physical education/human growth and development teacher for Nathan Hale Magnet Middle School.  Clayburn is married to wife Susan and are parents of two year old daughter Emma and will be welcoming son (Gavin) to be born in October.
